Stage and Screen Event Late this month, Bad Wolf and the Welsh National Theatre hosted a truly special evening at Wolf Studios Wales.
The highlight of the night featured Jane Tranter (CEO and Co-founder of Bad Wolf) and Michael Sheen (Actor and Artistic Director at Welsh National Theatre) in an exclusive conversation. They dove deep into their illustrious careers, took questions from the audience, and shared exciting insights about our upcoming writers’ scheme.
We wrapped up the night with a vibrant networking session, connecting with brilliant budding writers who are eager to submit their applications.

The Other Bennet Sister takes the US and Canada! Jane Tranter, CEO & Co-founder, Kate Crowther, Director of Production, Mary Furlong, Managing Director, Finance & Operations, and Becca Kinder, Creative Executive, got glammed up for Brit Box TV US & Canada premiere of The Other Bennet Sister in New York. The success that followed the premiere has been brilliant, with Brit Box receiving the highest number of sign-ups, driven by The Other Bennet Sister!

The Other Bennet Sister at Hay Festival
It was a double celebration at the Hay Festival this month as The Other Bennet Sister took center stage across two fantastic, packed-out panels.
The first event offered a fascinating deep dive behind the scenes. Writer Sarah Quintell and Bad Wolf Executive Producer & CEO Jane Tranter were joined by stars Ella Brucculeri and Lucy Briers. Reflecting on the story’s enduring spirit, Lucy shared a poignant moment with the crowd, noting that “there’s a bit of Mary in all of us.”
The excitement continued with the marvelous Ruth Jones, who delighted the audience as she explained her take on Mrs Bennet and shared just how much joy she found in playing her.
S4C:
S4C, alongside Into Film and Creative Wales, held a fantastic panel at this year’s Eisteddfod yr Urdd. The exceptional panel was made up of Fflur Davies and Tobin Ceiriog, Cast of Rownd a Rownd, Fiorella Wyn, Makeup artist on Madfabulous, Deio Jones, S4C’s social media offer, Lisa Jên, (Iaith ar Daith, and Madfabulous), and Rhys Bebb, Screen Alliance Wales. The event saw the panel share their stories and experiences within the industry, as well as giving advice about working within the creative industries across Wales.
Real SFX
We were proud to support the next generation of screen talent at the Media Cymru and Fivefold Studios Paul Higgins Legacy Lecture at Dragon Studios Wales. The event brought together students from Cardiff University and the University of South Wales with industry professionals to share insight, experience and career opportunities across the Welsh screen sector. It was particularly rewarding to see former Sgil Cymru apprentices, now trainee SFX technicians with Real SFX, taking part as industry professionals themselves.
On the production front, we officially wrapped work on The Siege, an ambitious large-scale project that placed practical effects firmly at the heart of its action sequences. It has been a fantastic experience working alongside an exceptional cast and crew, and we look forward to audiences seeing the results when it is released next year.
We were also delighted to see the release of two productions we were proud to contribute to this month – Sky’s Prisoner and ITV’s Believe Me – both showcasing the strength of production talent working across Wales and the wider UK.
Sustainability continues to be a key focus for the business, and we are proud to announce that Real SFX has once again been listed on the BAFTA albert Suppliers Directory for 2026, marking our second consecutive year on the directory. Alongside ongoing investment in greener production methods, our bespoke carbon tracker, developed with Aether, continues to help us measure, monitor and reduce the environmental impact of our work.
We were also pleased to attend the launch of Screen Craft Guild Cymru, an important new initiative supporting and championing screen craft and design talent across Wales. Programmes such as this play a vital role in strengthening skills, visibility and opportunities throughout the industry.
To round off the month, the team was honoured to receive the Community Impact Award at the Cardiff Life Awards 2026. The award recognises our ongoing work supporting Dreams & Wishes Charity through community events and fundraising initiatives, something that means a great deal to everyone at Real SFX. It was a fantastic evening celebrating Cardiff’s businesses and communities, made even more memorable by a surprise appearance from our Batman Tumbler outside the museum.
Gorilla Academy
Gorilla Academy has just completed our Creative Skills Fund project, which has been running for around 18 months, delivering practical post-production training across Wales and helping open up clearer routes into the screen sector. From entry-level support through to more technical upskilling, the work has focused on building confidence, developing real skills and making career pathways feel more visible and achievable. Since starting in September for this academic year, Gorilla Academy’s work with the Royal Academy of Engineering has focused on helping young people discover the technical and creative careers behind TV and film. Through school sessions and visits to Gorilla and Boom, students have been able to connect classroom learning with real studios, equipment and the wider range of roles that make the industry work.
Wales Screen Academy
Bethan in the South headed up to Liverpool for the BBC Comedy Festival. Over the course of the festival, we discovered current viewing trends, heard from the commissioners of each region, learned how to create short-form content for digital platforms, discovered what makes a great opening for a script submission, and heard from some of TV’s national treasures about their careers and experiences.
It was such a great event with so much useful and valuable information for creatives. We can’t wait to share what we learned with students and apply it to future projects!
Carol in the North had the pleasure of inviting award-winning podcast producer Meic Parry, to chat with the 3rd year Advanced Radio & Podcasting students at Bangor University to share his creative process and discuss his latest podcast, which has over a million listeners already, The Anglesey Vampire Killer. A fantastic experience for the students.
Lights, Camera, Cymru!

2026 Writers’ Room This month, we officially kicked off our 2026 Writers’ Room at the SAW Classroom, welcoming our four brilliant, successful applicants!
The team dove straight into developing our upcoming script alongside the fantastic screenwriter Joseph Lidster. It was an absolute pleasure to share the film’s premise with the writers and collaborate on building out the story universe, deepening the characters, and so much more.
The creative energy was unmatched, and we can’t wait to share further updates on this project with you all soon!

The Launch of Screen Craft Guild Cymru We were thrilled to attend the launch of the Screen Craft Guild Cymru at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama this month. It was an inspiring evening hearing from top-tier craft talent and learning about the guild’s exciting future plans.
It was also wonderful to catch up and celebrate with our friends at Creative Wales, the BBC, Sgil Cymru, and One Stop Shop – Siop Un Stop.

Careers Break at Carmarthen Bay Film Festival We had a fantastic time at the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival this month, where we hosted the Careers Breakout session in Llanelli!
Our very own Rhys had the wonderful opportunity to connect face-to-face with passionate, budding creatives eager to carve out their own pathways in the screen industry. From offering practical career advice to answering burning questions about the industry. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat!
Our Managing Director, Allison Dowzell OBE, attended the evening awards ceremony of the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. She had the pleasure of presenting the award for the Feature Documentary Category- Aaron Wheeler’s ‘The Edge of Existence’ took home the award! A fantastic evening celebrating brilliant talent. Congratulations to all the winners and all the nominees!
Eisteddfod yr Urdd We love being out in the community, and this year’s Yr Urdd did not disappoint! Rhys spent a wonderful, sun-soaked week connecting with attendees and shining a spotlight on the fantastic career opportunities right here in Wales. It was a joy to facilitate hands-on workshops, share industry insights during our talks, and demystify the sector with practical career guidance.
