Trainee Tuesday - Charlotte

For this week’s #traineetuesday, meet Charlotte.

Originally from West Wales, Charlotte moved to Cardiff in order to pursue her dream of working in the Film and TV industry. She considered a university degree but decided that this route wasn’t for her, and instead chose to research as many training opportunities as she could whilst working in retail. Charlotte came across the Calltime Company who were running a ‘Runner’s Training Day’ which she attended, as well as a 2-day PA Bootcamp course, both giving her practical knowledge of the industry.

Charlotte then applied for a Locations Assistant role on His Dark Materials that was being advertised through the Screen Alliance Wales website. Although she got an interview, unfortunately she did not get the role, however, she impressed them so much on the interview that they passed her details to the team on Industry who gave her a role as a trainee working in the production office. After Industry, she moved to post-production work on His Dark Materials, but this was sadly cut short due to Covid. After working for a short while in hospitality, Charlotte returned to the industry working as a Covid runner on the third series of A Discovery of Witches. This role also gave her the opportunity take on other responsibilities within the production office as well as her duties within the Covid department.

Having worked as a Producers Assistant on the upcoming Willow production, Charlotte then worked on a Leftbank & ITV co-production Without Sin, before returning once more to Wolf Studios Wales where she now works as a production secretary. In her current role, Charlotte predominantly tends to the in-house administration duties that keeps the production office running including searching for crew, organising meetings and ensuring everything runs smoothly in the department.

For people looking for work within this industry, Charlotte recommends looking online for courses, opportunities and training days that can greatly help your career and give you knowledge of what this type of work entails. You don’t need any experience or specific education to find work in this industry, but by showing that you are determined, passionate and proactive when approaching production companies, this shows you are a great potential candidate for any role.
