A Screen Alliance Wales collaboration with Forum RIDM, the industry platform of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) supporting the development of a creative feature-length documentary project from Wales. For the 2025 edition of Forum RIDM, Screen Alliance Wales are looking for a director/producer duo with a feature-length documentary film project in development to participate in Doc Lab Montréal, Forum RIDM’s project incubator, scheduled for November 21-26, 2025.
The selected director/producer duo will have the chance to enhance their project's development as a part of Doc Lab Montréal. This intensive training and networking initiative is designed to foster exchange and collaboration, offering mentorship, workshops, a dedicated pitch event, as well as the opportunity to connect with international documentary industry professionals. With projects expected from several countries, participants will be immersed in a diverse and dynamic environment, fostering connections between documentary creators from all over the world.
Forum RIDM will cover travel and accommodation expenses for the entire duration of the stay in Montreal, from November 21 to 26. This includes all accreditation fees for both Doc Lab Montreal (Nov. 21-23) and the ongoing professional market activities until Nov. 26. We're looking for: • A director/producer duo from Wales a with a feature-length documentary project in development or in the early stages of production, with a planned length of 60 minutes or more. (at least one member of the team must either currently reside in Wales, have been born in Wales or have lived in Wales for a minimum of 12 months prior to submitting the application). Formal visual proof of residency will be required. • Emerging filmmakers who have previously made a minimum of one short film and a maximum of two feature-length films.
Overview: • 3 days of closed-circuit group work sessions supervised by mentors. • 3 days of meetings, round tables, master classes and discussions with local and international professionals. • A pitch activity within Forum RIDM’s professional market, for an audience composed of professionals from international markets. • Selected participants are required to be available for the full length of the program, from November 21 to 26, 2025, which encompasses both Doc Lab Montreal and Forum RIDM’s professional market. • Sessions will be in English or French, depending on the speakers and participants. Real time translation provided for participants if needed. • Selected participants in Doc Lab Montréal will have the chance to participate in project development sessions, in addition to accessing master classes, lectures and round tables included in Forum RIDM’s program. Projects must be submitted in English (the Lab’s working language). Deadline for submission is June 19, 2025, 6:00 pm. Selected participants will be contacted by August 1st 2025. About Forum RIDM Forum RIDM aims to stimulate the production and distribution of independent documentaries, both nationally and internationally, by promoting the exchange of information and meetings between the various professionals in the documentary industry. Roundtables, conferences, and workshops on major current issues will bring together over 500 filmmakers and representatives of various production, broadcasting and distribution companies over six days.
