Behind the Scenes Week - Zina

This week seems like the perfect time to shine a spotlight on our unsung hero, Zina Wegryznski. At Screen Alliance Wales, we were over the moon to hear that the fantastic Zina had made her way onto the prestigious `The Brit List 2022’ after receiving 8 recommendations for her comedy drama pilot 'Love at Second Sight'. The Brit List celebrates and showcases the very best of British screenwriting and is considered to be the definitive go-to talent resource for the industry. We could not be more proud of Zina and also more grateful that, whilst all this was going on and with a script currently in development with Eleven Films (Producers of 'Sex Education'), she managed to fit in yet another 3 day Script Writing course for us, this time for 15 Year 10s from St. Illtyd’s, Willows and Cardiff West Community School.

Across the three days, the pupils were put through their creative paces and taught everything they needed to know about characters types, story types, and structure. To see just how much they had learned, they were given the challenging task to alter the plot of a famous fairy tale using the skills shown to them during their sessions. With their alternative film and TV stories ready to go, each group had the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the rest of the class - a task which we think everyone excelled at!

With a question and answer session to end the brilliant 3 days of script writing, the pupils were given the opportunity to quiz Zina about her career and the creative industries as a whole. From finding out what everyone's favourite film was to hearing about the duties of a TV development team, we think there were definitely some pupils inspired to become future Script Writers.

We had an absolute blast over the three days and it was great to see so much enthusiasm and passion from the pupils! A big thank you to all those who attended, and a big thank you to our wonderful scriptwriting teacher Zina for inspiring the next generation and setting their imaginations on fire!
