Joining the Ranks

Terry Davies joined the army in 1986 and served until 2013. Throughout his military career, he was deployed on numerous operational tours including Northern Ireland, The Balkans and Iraq. During his time in the army he rose through the ranks and gained a wealth of experience within project management, HR Management and recruiting.  After 27 years of service, Terry finished his military career as a Warrant Officer class 2.

After the army, he gained employment with The College’s Partnership as an Apprenticeship Coordinator for apprenticeships within the Public Services. During this chapter of Terry’s life, he gained his teaching qualifications. Unfortunately, Terry was made redundant in May 2019.

Whilst looking for a job, Terry chanced upon a Screen Alliance Wales advert on Facebook. It offered an insight evening for military veterans to highlight possible career opportunities within the TV & Film industry. This industry was one Terry had never considered before but was inspired to pursue it.

He received an invitation from Sarah, the SAW Education and Training Officer, to have a meeting at Wolf Studios with herself and Allison to discuss potential employment opportunities. Although there were no vacancies at Wolf Studios at the time, Sarah passed on Terry’s details to 4Wood TV & Film Construction. Within days, Terry was invited to meet with the directors of 4Wood TV and Film Construction and, after impressing them with his skills and experience, he was offered a position as a Stagehand.

As a Stagehand, Terry’s eyes have been opened to the potential career paths on offer within this fast moving and constantly evolving industry. He is currently completing his NEBOSH Health and Safety qualifications to open up even more possibilities for him.  Terry has had an inspiring journey into the industry and we look forward to see where he goes next.
